General Ri Yong-gil, chief of the North Korean Army, is said to have been executed Feb 3rd by Kim Jon Un. These are reports, however we have no reason to believe that they are lying. While propaganda is rampant in the North Korea for over the past 50 years, they have never once been shy about bragging.
Kim Jong Un’s staff has stated that, “this is our way ofdealing with rooting out corruption within our ranks.” What that directly translates to is Kim Jong Un systematically taking out the old guard from his father’s rule. The North Korea we see today is shocking and abrasive. While Un is a young leader, he is quick to pull the trigger.
Ri’s execution is the latest in a string of high-profile officials that have disappeared off the face of the Earth.
We know that North Korea has stated they have executed over 70 officials, mostly senior ranking military leaders from Kim Jong Il’s rule.
In May of last year the country’s defense minister, Hyon Yong-chol, was executed after the Kim Jong Un accused him of treason. He was executed with an anti-aircraft gun.
Kim’s uncle, Jang Song-thaek, was branded a “traitor for all ages,” and executed in 2013.
