Turkey and Russia Dispute SU-24 Attack

By now, you are well aware of the escalating tension between Russia and Turkey after one of Russia’s Su-24 war planes was shot down close to the Turkish border. In response, Russia has sent anti-aircraft missiles to it’s forces in Syria.  Putin has commented that they were shot by air-to-air missiles by two F-16s from Turkey.

The second pilot shot down by Turkish forces says no warning was given to prior to his plane exploding. Russian Defense said he has been confirmed alive and was rescued in Syria.

Two pilots were ejected from the burning wreckage and parachutes deployed. One pilot was confirmed dead upon reaching the ground. This kind of warfare hasn’t been seen in the media in a very long time.  What’s more disturbing is the fact that the pilots, with parachutes open, were being shot at by militants. Some sources claim it was the Syrian Free Army but at this time, no one has been held responsible.  This footage is graphic. NSFW.

The video shows that the militants are arguing to take them prisoner but the gunfire escalates.

It is important to point out that firing upon parachutists in distress is against Geneva Conventions:

Attacking people parachuting from an aircraft in distress is a war crime under Protocol I in addition to the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

Russia disputes the claim that their aircraft crossed the border into Turkey. Putin has described the attack as a “stab in the back” and that Turkey is an “accomplice of Terrorism”.

Expect a shit storm from Russia.
